Hello!
My name is David Delgado, and I am looking for friends. However, before I continue, I want to share with you who I am and why I am in prison.
On May 7th, 1990, three men who were under the influence of cocaine and alcohol tried to rob me. That night, I was wearing a large amount of jewelry. I confronted them, and we started fighting. When I was on the ground, a handgun fell from one of them. I grabbed the gun and shot it three times aimlessly while they were still kicking and punching me. Unfortunately, two of the three got shot and died. The third man ran away and has never been found.
I was arrested at the scene of the incident. According to the eyewitnesses, the fight between the victims and me lasted between seven to ten minutes.
My attorneys got me out on bond, claiming self-defense. I took a bench trial, and I was found guilty and sentenced to life.
In 2015, one of the attorneys who represented me wrote me a letter stating that my case had always bothered him because he knew that I was not guilty of murder and that if I was guilty of anything, I was guilty of involuntary manslaughter.
I am challenging my sentence and conviction. My case is currently pending in the Illinois Supreme Court. I am seeking a new trial to prove that I acted in self-defense and to get compensated for my wrongful conviction.
I practice criminal, civil, and international law and am a paralegal. I am also a black belt in karate. I am taking art classes at Northwestern University and enjoy drawing. Contact me.
