My name is Michael Bourgeois. I was born in Panama and lived in Kansas and Pennsylvania. I've been incarcerated for the past 22 years on an 80-Life Sentence, and was arrested when I was 17 years old.
Since I was incarcerated, I've spent my time trying to find a better version of myself as well as being a better person for my friends and family. I wrapped myself in education as well as physical activities. For the past eight years, I've been caring for two prison dogs, Hope and Joy, who have brought new life into mine. I spend a lot of time painting and making cards for other inmates and their families. I enjoy listening to a wide range of music during my downtime. From a young age, I learned to give respect, and you'll earn it. One of my favorite Bible quotes is 1 Corinthians 13:11: "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, thought like a child, and reasoned as a child, but when I became a man, I gave up childish things." I know there is a lot more growing to do, and every day is a struggle knowing I've hurt so many people and my community. I pray that one day I will be able to touch the streets again and show those I'm not the same person I was many years ago. God Bless †
