Somewhere along the way, on this journey we call life, I slipped and fell through the cracks of society and ended up on Texas death row. Behind these walls, I would witness the horrors of this dreadful place, but I never once contemplated giving up on life. This optimistic outlook toward life unexpectedly prepared the foundation for my future.

In 2005, the Supreme Court banned juvenile execution across the nation. With my life spared, I realized a greater authority than men had deemed my life’s purpose unfulfilled.

Now, over two decades of incarceration have not succeeded in imprisoning my mind and strong spirit. Yet, time has a tendency to creep up at the most unexpected moments, and I can’t help but feel the heightened sense of being alone. It's times like these that I know having a friend to write to can ease the feelings of loneliness.

But who am I?

Hello! My name is Son Tran. I am of Vietnamese descent. I possess a positive attitude and outlook toward life, and I know how to laugh and smile easily. Some of my passions are martial arts, its principles, and how I can apply the teachings to my life. I am also an avid reader, with a range of interests that includes self-help and historical fiction. I have a great capacity to learn new things, and I’m constantly challenging myself.

I am willing to correspond with people within the United States and abroad. I seek the opportunity to reach out beyond these walls to meet new people and make new friends.
